Jack Russell eats three rolls of xmas gift ribbons
by admin on Dec.30, 2011, under Jack Russell News
A greedy Jack Russell nearly had his Christmas cut to ribbons after indulging in an unwise festive feast.
Accident-prone pup Bob needed emergency surgery in Bradford after wolfing down three rolls of ribbon in the days leading up to Christmas.
But now the three-year-old, who lost a limb in a previous mishap, can look forward to the New Year thanks to the efforts of vets at the PDSA PetAid Hospital in Lorne Street, Bradford.
They found red, gold and green ribbon inside the terrier’s stomach, which could have proved fatal if not removed.
Bob’s owner, Sandy Sharp, 45, of Horsforth, who adopted him in September 2010, explained how the Jack Russell got into trouble at her sister’s home.
“I suddenly realised I hadn’t seen him in a while so went to see what he was up to,” Mrs Sharp said.
“I found him hiding under a bed upstairs – surrounded by the remains of a box of Christmas ribbon.”
She called the PDSA out-of-hours service and the mischievous mutt had an X ray, followed by the operation where the three rolls of ribbon were discovered.
“I was so worried when PDSA told me they needed to operate on Bob, but I knew he was in safe hands,” Mrs Sharp, from Horsforth, said.
“It was such a relief when they called me a few hours later to tell me the surgery had been a success. Although I was shocked when they explained how much ribbon they’d removed.”
After the operation Bob spent a day recovering at the animal hospital before being allowed home with his owner. He had to return for check-ups but has made a full recovery.
Mrs Sharp said: “We’re so grateful for everything PDSA have done for us. Bob is very lively and accident prone, but I’m keeping a close eye on him now to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

Jack Russell missing for four months returns home for Christmas
by admin on Dec.28, 2011, under Jack Russell News
A WHIFF of ham and the promise of a feast proved too tempting for Lucy.
The two-year-old Jack Russell cross has been lured home after four months on the run.
Owner Stacey Barnden, 25, and her family plan to spoil their Christmas miracle with a big bone after resigning themselves to never seeing her again.
Ms Barnden put up posters, scoured vets and shelters and placed newspaper advertisements after Lucy vanished from her Mt Evelyn home on August 27.
But when the weeks turned to months and there was still no sign of her beloved dog, she and her family began to lose hope.
The call that made their Christmas came on Saturday from a Boronia vet – about 9km from where Lucy disappeared – who had scanned Lucy’s microchip and discovered she was listed as missing.
“I didn’t really believe it at first, I didn’t want to get my hopes up because we’d had a lot of false alarms at first with the posters,” Ms Barnden said.
After wandering around for several weeks, a skinny Lucy was taken in by a couple who had been afraid to hand her into the pound for fear she would be put down.
But when they took her to the vet months later, her true owner was discovered.
“It’s fantastic, it is the best Christmas present ever,” Ms Barnden said.

GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell not dead
by admin on Dec.27, 2011, under Jack Russell News
GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell has released the following statement in a bid to dispel rumours he had passed on.
“To all my friends: Just wanted to announce that I will be coming back with my band, GREAT WHITE, and a BRAND NEW lineup. I am very excited about this new beginning. I am feeling better than ever, despite any rumors you may hear to the contrary. Unfortunately, and as confusing as it will be, my former bandmates and their manager have decided to continue to tour next year under the name I created, GREAT WHITE.
I will be touring under the name GREAT WHITE FEATURING JACK RUSSELL to try avoid any confusion.”
Russell spent time earlier this year recovering from major surgery after suffering a perforated bowel and it is believed, had part of his lower intestine removed. As such, his bowels are now touring with Russell under the name ‘Bowels featuring lower intestine’.
For those expecting to see a Jack Russell, eaten by a Great White shark at the new shows, will sadly be somewhat disappointed

JeffRussell News – hero Dog is a carer

Carol Willacy could not function without her carer Billy, however the dedicated Billy is no ordinary home help…he is a Jack Russell
It was puppy love at first sight when Carol Willacy first set eyes on her beloved Jack Russell, Billy.
But little did she know that within two years her precious pet would become her carer and companion.
Billy is believed to be the only Jack Russell support dog in the country.
Carol, 41, from Hoghton, who suffers mobility problems, says she would be lost without her tiny terrier who, despite being less than a foot tall, has become a pint-sized home help.
The four-year-old dog:
Fetches items such as the remote control, the telephone or the keys
Hands Carol her crutches
Takes groceries from the lower shelves in the supermarket
Helps Carol get dressed by pulling zips and taking off her boots
Switches the lights on and off
Helps with the laundry
Billy became a support dog after taking part in a training course in Sheffield.
Charity Support Dogs trains family pets to help people with disabilities in their homes and Carol says she was delighted when Billy was approved for the scheme. She said: “I have had Billy since he was a puppy, but he has been trained since 2008. Up until about four years ago I was active, but then I became disabled.
“I had just moved house and taken on a new mortgage. I didn’t know how I was going to manage.
“Then I saw a dog on TV who was helping his owner and I looked at my dog and I thought maybe he could help me.”
Carol, of Brookhouse Close, called Support Dogs and asked if Billy could be trained.
She said: “Billy is the only Jack Russell who is a registered disability assistance dog.
“I wouldn’t be able to manage without Billy.
“My friends are amazed by him.
“He gets a round of applause when he helps in the shops.
“Billy is everything to me.”
